Library of Congress

These shots are from the national library based in Washington, DC. It contains more than 142 million items preserved on some 650 miles of bookshelves, it's also the world's largest library. The Prints & Photographs Division takes care of 14 million of the Library's pictures and features more than 1 million through online catalogs - pretty impressive.

The three shots above are taken from a set depicting the 1940's in brilliant colour. They capture an era generally seen only in black-and-white. The subject matter is varied and interesting - from landscapes to towns, from people to products, from work to play and everything inbetween. Click here for much more.
