Big & Ugly

Whilst attending a few meeting today I stumbled across a couple of new additions to Melbourne's every increasing skyline. The city has a recent history of developing and building architecture that can be confronting, ground breaking and often beautiful in its construction and attention to detail. The two examples above, sadly do not fit into this category. Literally thrown up, constructed of massive concrete sections, with zero attempt to do anything remotely interesting with the overall mould, leaving a stark facade that harks back to the crap thrown up in the 1950's and 60's. It's sad to think we have learn't nothing from our past about architecture, in our haste to ride the economic wave and keep building, the powers that be have allowed these eyesores to be thrown up. I can't help but feel there must be a better way to deal with our current housing shortage? Answers on a postcard.

Bad planning. Bad architecture - Somebody else's problem in 75 years I guess.
