Gertrude Street is great, Its a bit like Hoxton Square in London. It walks a fine line between the diverse gritty-edge-mixed-crowd and the fancy-boutique-alternative-chic kind of place, if you know what I mean! It has the trendy pub, the odd fancy restaurant and the old favourites like Industria and the Gertrude Contemporary Art Space, seen above (click here). The photograph above was taken shorty after the artist installed it, I've tried to do some research into who or what it is, but the website is still awaiting an update - perhaps it a modern take on the hills hoist (click here).

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2010/7/30/1976_1977_1985.html"><rss:title>1976_1977_1985</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2010/7/30/1976_1977_1985.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>1976 1977 1985 D&AD Annual Seen</dc:subject>

I have a thing for all design books, especially old award annuals. On a recent browse these D&AD beauties popped up from 1976, 1977 and 1985. Having returned home and spent a few hours flicking through them it becomes apparent how much the world has actually changed. The two annuals from 76 & 77 both contain a vinyl 45 single containing winning soundtracks. All three are printed mainly in black and white, aside from the wrap, the dividers and a small front section. The photographs of the juries are hilarious - jump suits, mutton chops, quiffs, fat role necks - everything has been back in and out of fashion at least twice. The work is still great, if not a little bit simpler than we are used to seeing these days - times and people change I guess - perhaps things were a lot simpler back then? The pieces for Walls Sausages and Clarks Polyvelt's really stand out for me - having grown up on the bangers and having had a new pair of Polyvets every year of primary school, they really take me back.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2010/7/29/two-hundred-million-dollars.html"><rss:title>Two hundred million dollars</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2010/7/29/two-hundred-million-dollars.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Ansel Adams find photography</dc:subject>

We were very happy to be asked to contribute to the third edition of Leap Magazine - the theme for this issue was 'Air'. The images above hopefully show the diversity of the contributions included. Our contribution is based around the idea of hot air and a rather large dragon called brenda who swallows a dictionary.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2010/7/20/an-australian-in-new-york.html"><rss:title>An Australian in New York</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2010/7/20/an-australian-in-new-york.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Australian Craig Redman Illustration Seen new york</dc:subject>

Not a bad effort considering it was the first major game the brand new side had ever played. When I was working back at Elmwood design I lead the team that designed the new brand for the club and I personally designed the logo. It was great to see the new brand out on the field, living and breathing on the backs of the new players, hopefully they'll have a great first season.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2010/7/3/2010th.html"><rss:title>2010th</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2010/7/3/2010th.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

Click above for entry details.

</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
