Whilst researching a project I came across this wonderful french poster. Aside from from the overall aesthetic and subject matter the thing that really grabbed me was the mention of my home town of Otley in Northern England. In the 1850's Otley became famous for the invention of a printing press called the 'Wharfedale', which 'revolutionised' printing and the industry as a whole - find out a little more hear: click here

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2011/12/20/christmas-is-much-better-when-youre-small.html"><rss:title>Christmas is much better when you're small</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2011/12/20/christmas-is-much-better-when-youre-small.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

For sometime a copy of Vogue Living has been on our kitchen table. Everytime I flick through it the existing masthead grabs me, for all the wrong reasons. The word 'living' obsures the centre of the logo 'Vogue' making it feel clumsy, rash and unrefined. The need to differentiate it from the fashion edition may be the reason behind the solution, but I'd argue the remainder of the cover does this - interior shot vs fashion shot. The solution above uses the main Vogue masthead with a few tiny cuts in the letter 'E' to create the letter 'L' for Living - the use of colour, the word 'Living' inside the 'L' and the main cover image are more than ample to communicate to the potential reader in-store or online.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2011/11/23/thompson-hotel-la.html"><rss:title>Thompson Hotel, LA</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.madebybig.com/blog/2011/11/23/thompson-hotel-la.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Architecture Beverly Hills LA Los Angeles Made Morning Seen Sunset Thompson Hotel</dc:subject>

As a brand, organisation or individual connecting in a meaningful way is, in theory, very simple. The conversation with your audience should be a straight forward one. Complexiety and jargon are all to often used to make an inferior company or product feel superior - they add layers becuase they need to confuse you. Keep it simple and stay true.

</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
