The Studio
Made by Big is an independent design studio run by a Creative Director and a broad network of highly skilled designers, writers, photographers and specialists. We believe collaberation is an essential part of any design project, ensuring we can build a team of experts suited to any type of project, whatever the size. 

Kevin Blackburn  
Kevin graduated in 1997 with a degree in graphic design from the University of Northumbria, UK. He began his career in London with a series of placements at Lippa Pearce, The Partners and Carter Wong Tomlin. He then headed to Treviso, in Northern Italy, where he split his time between the studio, the beach and learning to cut his own hair.  

After a year he returned to England to join The Chase where he was the first designer to be employed in the fledgling Leeds office, winning 3 D&AD ‘in books’ in his first year. In 2002 he joined international design agency Elmwood working for a large range of clients including the BBC, Royal Mail, Celtic Football Club, Hewlett Packard and a lone dog walker from Yorkshire.  

In 2005 he relocated to Elmwood’s new studio in Melbourne, Australia. As Design Director he led a team of designers on projects for Nike, Just Group, Melbourne Writers Festival, National Sports Museum, ACMI, Federation Square, ANZ Bank and Melbourne Heart FC. As part of the Australian leadership team he helped grow the business from an office of three to twenty two. Early in 2010 he left to start Made by Big.  

His work has been widely published and recognised with over thirty international design awards including AGDA, D&AD, Design Week, DBA Design Effectiveness, Melbourne Art Directors Club, New York Festivals, New York Art Directors Club and Mobius. Outside the studio he loves photography, sixties furniture, fish finger sandwiches and gravy on just about everything.
